19-06-2026:Address by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand on the Occasion of the Inauguration of JK Lifecare Centres’ New Pharmaceutical API and Intermediates Manufacturing Facility

It gives me immense pleasure to be present today in the sacred city of Ujjain on the occasion of the inauguration of the new Pharmaceutical API and Intermediates Manufacturing Facility of JK Lifecare Centres. I extend my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Mishra family and the entire team of JK Lifecare for this significant initiative.

Ujjain represents the great Indian tradition where knowledge has flourished alongside faith, and scientific inquiry has evolved alongside spiritual pursuit. The development of a new capacity for modern science, research and pharmaceutical manufacturing on this very land is a continuation of that timeless journey of progress. Both our ancient knowledge traditions and modern science ultimately share the same purpose — the welfare of humanity.

The journey of JK Lifecare so far has been closely associated with healthcare. Through JK Hospital and Mahakaleshwar IVF Centre, the institution has established its role in serving patients and contributing to the healthcare sector. With this new initiative, that journey is now extending to a crucial part of the pharmaceutical value chain, where quality begins long before a medicine reaches the patient.

At a hospital, the treatment of a patient is visible, but behind it operates an entire supply chain of safe, high-quality and reliable medicines. Therefore, this initiative to manufacture APIs and intermediates is an important step towards strengthening the entire healthcare ecosystem.

API, or Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient, is the principal component of a medicine responsible for producing its therapeutic effect. Therefore, manufacturing APIs is not merely an industrial process. It has a direct bearing on the quality and reliability of medicines and, ultimately, on patient safety.

I am pleased that JK Lifecare has conceptualised this facility with due emphasis on process development, quality systems, safety, responsible operations and reliable supply. It is equally encouraging that research and development have been integrated with this manufacturing capability.

During my long service in the Indian Army, I experienced that the foundation of the success of any mission lies in discipline, adherence to established standards and a strong sense of responsibility. In the pharmaceutical sector, these values acquire even greater significance because the ultimate impact of every process is on human life and health. Therefore, in pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality and safety must not merely remain matters of regulatory compliance; they must become an integral part of the institutional culture.

The importance of the pharmaceutical sector for India is steadily increasing. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has placed before us the vision of a developed India by 2047. A strong healthcare system and self-reliant pharmaceutical capabilities are important pillars of this journey towards a developed India.

Along with medicines, we must continuously strengthen our domestic capacity to manufacture their essential ingredients. A robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem will strengthen our health security and ensure reliable supplies, while further enhancing India’s role in the global pharmaceutical supply chain.

Seen in this context, the establishment of this facility in Ujjain assumes particular significance. The project is connected with developing research-supported manufacturing capabilities, ensuring the availability of essential pharmaceutical inputs and creating opportunities for skilled employment.

Another important dimension of this project is youth and skill development. Such industries can serve as a strong bridge between education, knowledge and employment for young people trained in pharmacy, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering and technical disciplines.

The real strength of any modern pharmaceutical facility lies not merely in its machinery or production capacity. Its true strength lies in its scientists, engineers, technicians and trained workforce. Therefore, continuous training, skill development and the promotion of scientific thinking are essential foundations for the long-term success of this sector.

At the same time, our approach to industrial development must be responsible. Maintaining a balance between production and the environment, using resources judiciously and ensuring safe processes are essential requirements of modern industry. I am pleased that JK Lifecare’s institutional approach also places importance on scientific discipline, trained human resources, transparent documentation, data-driven improvement and environmental responsibility.

I believe that the success of an industry becomes even more meaningful when its benefits reach the society around it. When local youth receive opportunities, technical skills are developed and new possibilities emerge for ancillary industries, the impact of industrial development becomes much broader. The pharmaceutical sector can play an important role in the industrial development of Madhya Pradesh, and this facility in Ujjain can open new avenues in that direction.

On this occasion, I also congratulate all the scientists, engineers, technicians, employees, project partners and institutions whose collective efforts have brought this facility to fruition. The success of any major project is built upon the hard work, dedication and cooperation of many people.

The inauguration of this facility today is not merely the beginning of an industrial unit. It also marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to quality, scientific discipline, patient safety and self-reliant pharmaceutical capabilities.

My sincere wish is that this journey, beginning from the sacred city of Mahakal, sets new benchmarks in high-quality pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and innovation, youth skill development and employment, and reliable supply, while making a meaningful contribution to the development of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh and the nation.
