02-05-2026:Address by the Honorable Governor on the Occasion of Gujarat and Maharashtra State Foundation Day

    Publish Date : May 2, 2026

    Jai Hind!

Distinguished dignitaries present on the stage, dear brothers and sisters from Gujarat and Maharashtra residing in the sacred land of Uttarakhand, and respected members of the audience, my heartfelt greetings to all of you on the Foundation Day of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Today marks a golden chapter in the proud history of Indian democracy and our federal structure. I feel immense joy in welcoming you all to this dignified event organized to celebrate the Foundation Day of two great states, Gujarat and Maharashtra, which came into existence on May 1, 1960. Today, this Lok Bhavan of Uttarakhand presents a vibrant image of a Mini India.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the vision of One India, Great India has now become a reality. Today, Foundation Days of different states are being celebrated in government buildings across the country, showing that geographical distances cannot weaken our cultural and emotional bonds.

Unity in Diversity: A Cultural Confluence

Friends, today the sacred hills of Uttarakhand greet the vast western coastlines. This union is a beautiful blend of the stability of the Himalayas and the dynamism of the Arabian Sea. When we think of Gujarat and Maharashtra, a grand image of bravery, sacrifice, enterprise, and culture appears in our minds. Uttarakhand’s relationship with these states is not only administrative, but also deeply spiritual.

Gujarat: Land of Pride and Enterprise

Gujarat is not just a geographical region, but a symbol of India’s self respect. It is the land of Lord Krishna’s work and duty, Dwarka. It has given the world great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, who taught nonviolence, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of a united India.

Historically, the Indus Valley site of Lothal shows Gujarat’s ancient trade excellence, and today’s GIFT City represents modern India’s economic ambition. The world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, fills every Indian with pride. Gujarat has proven through its enterprise that development has no limits.

Maharashtra: Center of Valor and Culture

On the other hand, Maharashtra reminds us of the courage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who established self rule and inspired dignity and pride. It is also the land of saints like Dnyaneshwar, Tukaram, and Ramdas, whose teachings have guided society.

The contribution of B. R. Ambedkar in shaping modern India is unmatched. Today, Mumbai, the financial capital of India, serves as the heartbeat of the nation. Maharashtra’s industrial strength and economic contribution play a major role in making India one of the world’s leading economies.

    National Unity and Vision

Friends, this event would be incomplete without remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who unified more than five hundred princely states to form modern India. The unity he achieved geographically is now being strengthened culturally and emotionally through national initiatives.

Though our languages, food habits, and clothing may differ, when it comes to the nation, we are all Indians.

    One Nation, One Vision

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has achieved the vision of one nation one tax and one nation one constitution. The country is now moving toward one nation one election and a uniform civil framework. Uttarakhand has taken an important step in this direction.

    Uttarakhand and Migrant Connections

Many brave soldiers from Uttarakhand have served in Maharashtra’s coastal and border areas. Similarly, people from Uttarakhand contribute to the development of Gujarat and Maharashtra. This bond of work and protection is strong and lasting.

Devotees from Gujarat visit Uttarakhand in large numbers for spiritual journeys to sacred sites such as Char Dham, Rishikesh, and Haridwar, strengthening our spiritual connection.

    Cooperative Federalism

States must learn from each other. Uttarakhand can learn from Gujarat’s cooperative model and solar energy efforts, while Maharashtra’s infrastructure and management can guide urban development. Strong partnerships in tourism, education, and investment are essential.

Developed India by 2047 and Youth Power

Our goal is Developed India by 2047. This is not just a slogan, but a shared commitment of all Indians. The youth will play the most important role. I urge young people from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand to work together in technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

    Cultural Identity

Culturally, Gujarat’s Garba and Maharashtra’s Ganesh festival are now national celebrations. When Garba is performed in Uttarakhand or chants of devotion are heard, the idea of one united India becomes clear.

In conclusion, I once again extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of Gujarat and Maharashtra and all those present here.

Diversity is not our weakness, but our greatest strength. Though we belong to different states, we are all part of one nation. Let us pledge to always place national unity and integrity above all.

From the sacred land of Uttarakhand, I pray that Gujarat and Maharashtra continue to grow and contribute to making India a global leader.

With this hope, I conclude my address.

Jai Maharashtra, Jai Gujarat, Jai Uttarakhand, Jai Hind!
