    15-11-2021 : Tribal communities inspire for conservation of natural resources and environment.-Governor

    Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) has called upon the youth of tribal areas of Uttarakhand to do branding, imaging and marketing of their culture, products and crafts through social media, mass media. The tribal areas of Uttarakhand especially where Bhotia, Tharu, Buxa, Jaunsari people live can be established as a big hub of cultural tourism for tourists. Research should be done in universities on the indigenous knowledge and experiences of the tribal communities of the state. The new generation should know the history, culture, arts and life of the tribal communities. The Governor said that the local knowledge and experience of the tribal communities is a heritage. Their culture is the most beautiful. The eco-friendly traditions of tribal communities are exemplary all over the world today.

    Governor Lt. Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) felicitated the Principal, Vice Principal and students of Eklavya Model Residential School, Kalsi for the excellent work done in the tribal area on the occasion of National Tribal Pride Day at Raj Bhawan on Monday. On this occasion, Principal of Eklavya Model Residential School, Kalsi, Dr. Girish Chandra Badoni, Vice-Principal Smt Sudha Painyuli and students of this school Yogesh Kumar, Sonam Chauhan, Anshul Chauhan, Ajay Rathore, Praveen Verma were honored. It is worth mentioning that all these meritorious students are from Buxa and Jaunsari tribal areas and are studying in various prestigious institutes of the country. The Governor also honored Shri Premchand Sharma, a resident of Jaunsar region, who was recently awarded Padmashree.

    Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that tribal communities inspire for conservation of natural resources and environment. Today, in the challenging times of climate change and global warming, the importance of eco-friendly culture and traditions of tribal communities is huge. Rural genius and local knowledge of tribal communities and rural people is an invaluable heritage. We need to preserve it and learn from it.

    Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that on November 15, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda ji is being celebrated as Tribal Pride Day. Bhagwan Birsa Munda fought with the British Empire for the glory of the tribal society in the challenging times of 1875 and gave martyrdom. The Governor said that tribes have the deepest and most beautiful culture in the world. The culture, song-music, dance and rich traditions of the tribal communities of Uttarakhand have a special identity . Tribal culture should be preserved and promoted. They are becoming the center of attraction for tourists from all over the world.
