During the programme, the Governor released a Special Postal Cover on the theme “Bhoj Patra” issued by the Department of Posts and also inaugurated a philatelic exhibition organised by the Dehradun division of the postal department. The exhibition showcased an attractive collection of postage stamps based on diverse themes, drawing significant interest from visitors.

This year’s theme of Vasantotsav is “Floral Healing: Nature’s Path to Well-Being.” The Horticulture Department made special arrangements to demonstrate the concept of floral healing. A dedicated stall also displayed food items prepared from fresh flowers found in Himalayan regions. Through the theme-based installations, the message conveyed was that the festival extends beyond a flower exhibition and highlights the therapeutic power of nature as well as the importance of flowers and greenery in promoting physical and mental well-being.

On the first day of the festival, National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities presented a live rhythmic yoga performance, captivating the audience. Niramaya Yogam Research Foundation also showcased rhythmic yoga demonstrations, while children from the Wushu Association of Uttarakhand presented impressive martial arts performances. The Governor interacted with students participating in the painting competition, appreciated their artwork, and encouraged them. He also visited various exhibition stalls and gathered information from exhibitors.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that Vasantotsav has created a unique festive atmosphere at Lok Bhavan. He praised the flower exhibition, stating that the quality, diversity and fragrance of the flowers on display reflect the unmatched beauty of nature. Appreciating progressive farmers and horticulture experts, he said that horticulture and floriculture can provide new direction to the State’s economy by generating income and employment opportunities.

Referring to the “Aroma Revolution,” the Governor stated that aromatic products derived from Uttarakhand’s natural resources can establish a distinct global identity. He also commended ongoing research on the health benefits of flowers and aromatic products.

Describing the release of the Special Postal Cover on Bhoj Patra as a significant moment, he said that Bhoj Patra symbolises India’s ancient knowledge tradition and rich cultural heritage, representing a deep connection with the nation’s roots.

The Governor highlighted that the exhibition of products prepared by youth, women and self-help groups reflects their creativity and self-reliance. He described honey, aromatic products and millets as potential drivers of economic growth, adding that linking these traditional products with technology and digital platforms could open new markets and opportunities. He urged citizens to visit Vasantotsav with their families and make the most of the event.

A total of 2,314 participants have taken part in 15 categories comprising 55 sub-categories, including traditional and non-traditional cut flowers, potted plants, loose flowers, vegetables, cactus and succulents, bonsai, terrariums, hanging pots, hydroponic cultivation, gardening pots, on-the-spot photography, honey, fresh petal rangoli and painting competitions.
