    The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), participated in the “Women Entrepreneurs: Rising Stars” Award Ceremony organised by the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs of India at Lok Bhavan on Saturday. On the occasion, he honoured women entrepreneurs who have made outstanding contributions in various fields.

    Among the awardees were renowned boxer and Olympic medalist Mary Kom, entrepreneur Anju Ahuja, social entrepreneur Nidhi Mittal Bansal, noted artist and educator Rubal Nagi, social worker and environmental conservationist Shashi Raturi, and actress and film producer Aarushi Nishank, along with several other distinguished women.

    Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the true progress of any nation is possible when its development moves forward under the leadership of women. He stated that women today are not only the foundation of society and family but are also emerging as powerful drivers of economic progress and social transformation. Appreciating the confidence, leadership qualities, and positive energy of the women present, he remarked that today’s Indian women are establishing their identity on the global stage through determination and talent.

    The Governor emphasised that providing respect and equal opportunities to women is not merely a social responsibility but an essential requirement for nation-building. He said that challenges give direction to life, and true success emerges from overcoming them. The women entrepreneurs honoured at the event are a source of inspiration in their respective fields. He added that they now carry an important responsibility to guide future generations through their experience and leadership.

    The Governor also praised the women of Uttarakhand, stating that women in mountainous regions demonstrate remarkable courage, dedication, and leadership even in challenging circumstances. He noted that the women of Uttarakhand have made significant contributions to strengthening the state’s economy through Self-Help Groups, agriculture, handicrafts, and local products.

    On the occasion, Olympic medalist Mary Kom also addressed the gathering. Sharing her journey and experiences, she said that her path from a modest family in Manipur to the international stage was not easy. Despite limited resources and social challenges, she achieved her dreams through determination, discipline, and self-confidence.

    She said that representing India and seeing the national flag rise on the global stage has always been a matter of immense pride for her. Inspiring the women and youth present at the event, she urged them not to fear difficulties in life but to treat them as opportunities. She encouraged women to believe in their own strength, set clear goals, and pursue them fearlessly with determination.

    The programme was attended by the First Lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur; Vice-Chancellor of Doon University Prof. Surekha Dangwal; Vice-Chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University Prof. Tripta Thakur; Vice-Chancellor of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University Prof. Bhanu Duggal; National Treasurer of the Confederation of Women Entrepreneurs of India Smt. Meetu Puri; President, Uttar Pradesh Chapter Smt. Riya Raheja; Secretary Smt. Shikha Ghai; along with women from various fields and other dignitaries.
