    IIT Roorkee wins the Running Trophy by securing the highest number of awards in the Flower Exhibition Competition

    The three-day Vasantotsav at Lok Bhavan, Dehradun, concluded on Sunday with great enthusiasm and public participation. A large number of visitors attended the festival and enjoyed the natural beauty of flowers and the wide range of associated events. This year, the prestigious Running Trophy of Vasantotsav-2026 was awarded to IIT Roorkee.

    IIT Roorkee secured first position by winning awards in 13 categories, while ONGC secured second position with awards in four categories. A total of 161 awards were presented across 15 categories and 54 sub-categories. The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd), and the Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, presented awards to winners of the flower exhibition, rangoli competition, children’s painting competition, photography competition, and other categories.

    For the first time, the Governor’s Award was instituted this year to recognise outstanding farmers, women farmers, and young agri-entrepreneurs engaged in innovation through startups. In the category of outstanding farmers, Shri Deepak Gadiya from Bageshwar secured first place, Shri Kapil Sharma from Rudraprayag secured second place, and Shri Shubham Singh from Pithoragarh secured third place. In the women farmers category, Smt. Radha Rana from Champawat secured first place, Smt. Kavita Mehra from Almora secured second place, and Smt. Shanti Juyal from Pauri Garhwal secured third place. In the young agri-startup innovators category, Shri Devendra Singh Chauhan from Tehri secured first place, Shri Pankaj Mehta from Nainital secured second place, and Shri Ujjwal Saini from Haridwar secured third place.

    The closing ceremony was further enriched by the melodious performances of the Pipe Bands of the Indian Military Academy and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, which were highly appreciated by the audience.

    On the occasion, the Governor said that the happiness and satisfaction visible on the faces of nearly three and a half lakh visitors over the three days reflected the true success of the festival. He stated that the core spirit of Vasantotsav-2026 was to promote positivity, balance, and creativity through flowers. He also noted that the thematic displays established by the Horticulture Department demonstrated how flowers contribute to physical well-being, mental balance, and emotional wellness.

    Highlighting innovation as a key pillar for achieving the vision of Developed India 2047, the Governor said that every stall and presentation reflected creativity and new thinking. He appreciated the rhythmic yoga performances, yoga demonstrations by specially-abled children, Wushu performances, and cultural presentations. He also praised the stalls set up by women Self-Help Groups and commended the inspiring role of women in strengthening self-reliance.

    Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that Vasantotsav is not merely a cultural event but a celebration of Uttarakhand’s natural wealth, agricultural strength, and emerging green economy. He said that the spring season symbolises positivity, renewal, and spiritual joy, and the vibrant flowers displayed at Lok Bhavan reflect the rich biodiversity of the state. He also appreciated the Governor’s discipline, patriotism, and visionary leadership, stating that the state continues to progress under his guidance.

    The Chief Minister emphasised that the integration of traditional knowledge with modern innovation can help local products gain national and international recognition. He appreciated the efforts of Self-Help Groups, women, and youth, calling them a strong foundation for building a self-reliant Uttarakhand.

    He further informed that commercial floriculture is currently being carried out over approximately 656 hectares in the state, providing a high-income, low-cost opportunity for farmers. The state government is promoting farmers through comprehensive flower policies, market support, fee exemptions, and subsidy schemes. He added that new policies for apple cultivation, kiwi farming, millet promotion, and dragon fruit cultivation, with an investment of approximately ₹1200 crore, have been implemented, offering subsidies of up to 80 percent to encourage horticulture.

    On this occasion, Agriculture Minister Shri Ganesh Joshi, MLA Shri Khajan Das, MLA Smt. Savita Kapoor, First Lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur, Smt. Geeta Dhami, Secretary to the Governor Shri Ravinath Raman, Legal Advisor Shri Kaushal Kishore Shukla, Secretary Horticulture Shri S. N. Pandey, Additional Secretary Smt. Reena Joshi, Director Horticulture Shri S. L. Semwal, and several other dignitaries were present.
