Governor Smt. Baby Rani Maurya held a meeting with senior officials of the government and vice-chancellors of universities at Raj Bhavan on Friday. It was decided in the meeting that a ranking ranking based on performance indicators (performance index) should be made for the universities of the state. A committee of Vice-Chancellors should be formed to decide the performance indicators of the universities, including the officers of the Government and the Governor’s Secretariat. This is an important decision to enhance the quality of universities.
In the meeting, Governor Smt. Maurya emphasized the good coordination between the Vice Chancellor and the Registrar in all the universities. He instructed the officials of the government to take the problems of universities seriously. The Governor said that universities should run such programs for the rural and marginal areas in the hills that create employment and prevent migration. The Governor instructed the universities to organize meaningful programs on the upcoming June 05 ‘World Environment Day’ and June 21 ‘World Yoga Day’. He said that arrangements should be made to provide credit to the students for tree plantation and care of the saplings planted. Some universities have this system and some do not.
Governor Smt. Maurya asked all the vice chancellors to prepare water conservation plans, and also to prepare action plans to connect various stakeholders.
Information of online and offline classes and examinations of universities was taken in the meeting. Governor Smt. Maurya has said that the universities of the state should work towards becoming a center of excellence. In the era of Kovid-19, higher educational institutions of the state will have to be able to run classes both online and offline. There should be no loss of children’s education.
It was informed that the process of de-affiliation of HNB University of the colleges under the jurisdiction of Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University has started as per the instructions of the government. Universities were instructed to appoint faculty in colleges and allied institutions as per the prescribed standards. When it comes to the lack of budget for renovation of buildings of Pantnagar University, the Vice Chancellor and the Finance Secretary were jointly instructed to work out a solution. In Barsar University, only Rs. 7 crore has been released in respect of the salary of the employees appointed by the Upanal. Uttarakhand Technical University does not get any money from the government, on which they were directed to send a proposal to the government. Governor Smt. Maurya also instructed the universities to strengthen their own economic resources.
The problem of non-regular appointment of Controller of Examinations, Finance Controller has been pointed out by many universities, on which the Governor instructed the officials of the government to resolve them appropriately. Governor Smt. Maurya also inquired about the programs being run by the universities in the adopted villages.
Principal Secretary Higher Education Shri Anand Vardhan informed that out of 106 colleges in the state, there are only 04 such colleges which do not have their own buildings. Construction work is in progress in 23 colleges. In the last years, 700 posts have been filled by the Public Service Commission and about 250 posts are being sent to the Commission of Inquiry.
Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi also suggested to make Hindi more practical and easy to use in the textual content of Uttarakhand Open University.
Vice Chancellor of Ayurveda University Prof. Sunil Joshi gave information about various Ayurvedic remedies, decoctions, special masks etc. developed to fight Kovid-19.
Farmer Diary of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Uttarakhand Horticulture and Forestry University, Bharsar, Pauri Garhwal was also released on the occasion.
