Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) interacted warmly with TB patients, persons with disabilities and orphaned children at a programme held at Lok Bhavan today. He enquired about their concerns, experiences and needs, and encouraged them to move forward with confidence. On the occasion, the Governor distributed gifts to the children, nutritious food kits to TB patients and sewing machines to those in need. He also visited an exhibition showcasing products prepared by persons with disabilities associated with the Harshal Foundation and appreciated their efforts and achievements.

On the occasion, the Governor said that true progress in society is possible only when the participation of every individual is ensured in the mainstream of development. Persons with disabilities have the talent, potential and confidence to contribute meaningfully to society and lead it towards a new direction. He emphasised the need to provide them with equal opportunities, appropriate platforms and encouragement so that they can become self-reliant and realise their dreams. He also appreciated the efforts of institutions and organisations working towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Speaking about the eradication of tuberculosis, the Governor said that timely treatment, nutritious food and the support of family and society are extremely important in the fight against TB. Along with medical treatment, TB patients also need emotional and social support. He called upon everyone to actively participate in the national campaign for TB eradication and adopt a sensitive and supportive approach towards TB patients.

The Governor said that an inclusive and empowered society can be built only through a spirit of service, compassion and cooperation. Every capable individual and institution in society should come forward to support those in need, so that no one is left behind due to a lack of opportunities.

Member of Parliament Shri Naresh Bansal, Chairperson of Harshal Foundation Smt. Rama Goyal, Additional Secretary Smt. Reena Joshi, religious leaders from various faiths, representatives of concerned institutions and other dignitaries participated in the programme.
