Secretary, Sainik Welfare and Culture Calls on Governor

Secretary, Sainik Welfare and Culture, Shri Yugal Kishore Pant, called on Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday. During the meeting, various matters concerning the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, as well as issues related to the Department of Culture, were discussed.
The Governor emphasised the effective use of digital technology to make information about various welfare schemes being implemented for ex-servicemen and their families easily accessible. He suggested developing a dedicated mobile application for ex-servicemen, providing comprehensive information about the schemes, facilities and benefits available to them. In the future, eligible beneficiaries could also be enabled to apply for various schemes through the app.
The Governor said that serving soldiers and ex-servicemen are an important strength of the nation. Their experience, discipline and skills should be utilised for the development of society and the state. He stressed the need to prioritise technology, employment and rehabilitation to ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach eligible beneficiaries effectively.
The meeting also included discussions on creating overseas employment opportunities for ex-servicemen and their dependants. The Secretary informed the Governor that efforts are underway to develop UPCL as an Overseas Manpower Recruitment Agency. Through this initiative, ex-servicemen, their dependants and the youth of Uttarakhand could be connected with employment opportunities available abroad, creating new avenues for skilled human resources.
The Secretary further informed that an Agniveer Cell is being established in Uttarakhand to address employment, rehabilitation and other concerns of Agniveers completing their military service. The Cell will facilitate employment and self-employment opportunities for them after completion of their service and assist in resolving their concerns and grievances.
The meeting also included discussions on initiatives by the Department of Culture in the area of social awareness. The Governor particularly emphasised the need to create greater awareness among the youth and society about the harmful effects of substance abuse and to encourage increased public participation in efforts towards a drug-free society.
