Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), on Saturday inaugurated the new Pharmaceutical API and Intermediates Manufacturing Facility of J.K. Lifecare Centres in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. On the occasion, the Governor said that self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector is a critical pillar of India’s health security and reliable supply of medicines. He emphasised that to realise the vision of a developed India, it is essential not only to strengthen the healthcare system but also to continuously enhance the country’s domestic manufacturing capacity for essential medicines and their key components.
The Governor said that the true strength of any pharmaceutical unit lies not merely in its machinery and production capacity, but in its scientists, engineers, technicians and skilled human resources. Continuous training, skill development and a scientific approach, he said, are among the key foundations for the long-term success of the pharmaceutical sector.
The Governor noted that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has set before the nation the goal of building a developed India by 2047. He said that a self-reliant pharmaceutical ecosystem will play an important role in achieving this vision. A strong domestic manufacturing base will not only enhance India’s health security but also further strengthen the country’s role in global pharmaceutical supply chains.
He said that the facility established in Ujjain represents an important step towards developing research-driven manufacturing capabilities, ensuring the availability of essential pharmaceutical inputs, and creating new opportunities for employment and skill development for young people. Such industries, he said, can serve as a strong bridge between knowledge and employment for youth trained in pharmacy, chemistry, biosciences, engineering and other technical disciplines.
The Governor also emphasised the importance of environmental responsibility alongside industrial development. He said that maintaining a balance between production and environmental sustainability, judicious use of resources and adoption of safe processes are essential requirements of modern industry. The success of industries becomes more meaningful when its benefits reach local communities, create opportunities for local youth and generate new possibilities for ancillary industries.
The Governor congratulated the scientists, engineers, technicians, employees, project partners and all institutions associated with the project. He said that behind the success of every major project lies the hard work, dedication and collective contribution of numerous individuals and organisations.
