Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) said that the five years he has spent in Uttarakhand have been among the most significant and emotionally fulfilling journeys of his life. During his four decades of service in the Army, he had rarely had the opportunity to remain at one place for more than three years, but his five years in Devbhoomi passed before he even realised it. He said the occasion was not merely a celebration of the achievements of his tenure, but an opportunity to express his gratitude to all those who had contributed to the journey by working together as one family and one team.

At a programme organised at Lok Bhavan to mark the completion of five years of his tenure, the Governor described the occasion as deeply personal and emotional. Expressing his gratitude to the Lok Bhavan family, universities, academicians, youth, women and the people of Uttarakhand, he said their cooperation, participation and support had made the journey meaningful and fulfilling.

As part of the programme, the Governor honoured officers and employees of Lok Bhavan for their outstanding work. He said every member of the Lok Bhavan team had discharged their responsibilities with dedication, sincerity and a deep sense of ownership. Emphasising that the success of any institution is built on the contribution of each of its members, he encouraged the awardees and said that the recognition was not merely an honour for individuals, but a recognition of the collective hard work of the entire Lok Bhavan family.

On the occasion, the Governor released ‘Aatma Ke Swar-05’, published by the Lok Bhavan Information Complex. The book is a compilation of speeches delivered by the Governor on various occasions and at different programmes. He also released three books published by Uttarakhand Open University —‘21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities’, ‘Viksit Bharat@2047—Advancing Towards Building a Self-Reliant, Inclusive and Sustainable Nation’, and ‘Viksit Uttarakhand: The Governor’s Five Dreams and Vision’.

The Governor also launched ‘Garh Samvad’, an app developed by Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University. ‘Garh Samvad’ is an AI-based digital language dialogue platform for the Garhwali language. Its objective is not merely to translate the language, but to connect Garhwali with the digital world and carry the region’s local language, culture and folk heritage to the younger generation.

Secretary to the Governor, Shri Ravinath Raman, delivered the welcome address and expressed gratitude to the Governor on behalf of Lok Bhavan for his guidance and leadership. A short film showcasing the Governor’s five-year tenure and his various initiatives was screened during the programme. A cultural presentation by young girls also captivated the audience.

Earlier, the Governor inaugurated Main Entrance Gate No. 3 of Lok Bhavan. Designed in the traditional architectural style of the Uttarakhand hills, the grand entrance reflects the state’s rich cultural heritage and architectural traditions. Its grandeur and aesthetic appeal further enhance the dignity of Lok Bhavan. The Governor appreciated the officers, personnel and workers of the Public Works Department associated with its construction and said that completing such a grand and attractive entrance within a limited period was commendable. He also appreciated the efforts of everyone who contributed to its construction.

First Lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur, Secretary to the Governor Shri Ravinath Raman, Legal Adviser Shri Kaushal Kishore Shukla, Additional Secretary Smt. Reena Joshi, Financial Controller Dr. Tripti Srivastava, Joint Director Information Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Vice-Chancellors and Chairpersons of various universities, and officers and employees of Lok Bhavan were present on the occasion.
