Governor Launches the Book ‘Yatra: From Sorrow to Joy’

Lok Bhavan Dehradun 14 September, 2026

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) on Monday launched the book ‘Yatra: From Sorrow to Joy’, authored by senior neurologist and writer Dr. Krishna Avtar, at Lok Bhavan. The Governor congratulated Dr. Krishna Avtar and conveyed his best wishes for this meaningful and inspiring work.

The Governor said that life is deeply influenced by our thoughts, perceptions and beliefs. The way we look at a particular situation shapes the way we experience it. True happiness, he said, lies less in external circumstances and more in understanding one’s inner self. He observed that the entire universe also exists within us. When we close our eyes and look inward, it communicates with us; the real question is whether we have learnt to listen to and understand that inner dialogue.

He said that the book inspires readers to look at sorrow not merely as a problem, but as an opportunity to understand oneself and discover one’s inner strength. Dr. Krishna Avtar has spent more than three decades as a physician, closely witnessing and understanding human suffering. Through this book, he has brought together his experiences in medicine, spiritual reflection and life, while exploring a pathway from sorrow towards joy.

The Governor said that doubt, misunderstanding and suspicion are aspects of life for which no doctor has a medicine. Their resolution has to be discovered within ourselves. For this, clarity and self-awareness are essential. The greatest struggle, he said, is the struggle to understand oneself. We must recognise our own value and self-worth.

Extending his best wishes to Dr. Krishna Avtar, the Governor said that as a physician, he has devoted his life to saving lives, and now, as an author, he is endeavouring to help people understand life and find a new direction. He expressed hope that the book would not remain confined to libraries, but would reach people going through illness, failure, loneliness and deep sorrow, offering them hope and renewed self-confidence.

First Lady Smt. Gurmeet Kaur, Principal Secretary Shri Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, Dr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Shri Mahant Krishna Giri Maharaj of Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Dehradun, Shri Manoj Kumar Jha, Editor, Dainik Jagran, Dehradun, Shri Srikanth Sharma, Shri Kamal Kant Garg and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
