Raksha Bandhan Celebrated with Joy and Warmth at Lok Bhavan
Lok Bhavan Dehradun 28 August, 2026
On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, sisters from Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya tied rakhi (sacred threads) to Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), at Lok Bhavan today and wished him good health and a long life. On the occasion, the Governor expressed his gratitude to all the sisters and described Raksha Bandhan as a symbol of love, trust and social harmony.
In a similar gesture, girl students from Sapiens School, Vikasnagar; Hindustan Scouts and Guides, Uttarakhand; Summer Valley School, Dehradun; and Devbhoomi International Public School, Haridwar, also tied rakhis to the Governor and conveyed their greetings. The Governor blessed the students and wished them a bright future.
The programme featured patriotic cultural performances by students. Students of Hindustan Scouts and Guides, Uttarakhand, and Summer Valley School, Dehradun, presented patriotic group dances. Children from SOS Children’s Village added a spiritual and emotional touch to the programme with their rendition of the song “Ram Aayenge.”
Students of Sapiens School, Vikasnagar, presented a short play on the theme “Raksha Bandhan: Honouring Every Protector of the Nation,” conveying a message of respect and gratitude towards the brave soldiers who contribute to the security of the country. Meanwhile, students of Devbhoomi International Public School, Haridwar, presented a street play on de-addiction, urging young people to stay away from substance abuse.
Interacting with the students and children on the occasion, the Governor appreciated their efforts. He said that Raksha Bandhan is not merely a festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, but also an occasion to strengthen the values of security, trust, responsibility and mutual respect. He said that extending respect to everyone who contributes to the security and well-being of society and families, from soldiers guarding the nation’s borders to those working for the welfare of society, broadens the spirit of the festival.
The Governor said that the patriotic and socially relevant programmes presented by the children convey the message that the younger generation should be conscious not only of their values and traditions but also of their responsibilities towards the nation and society. He extended his best wishes and blessings to all the students for a bright future.
Expressing his gratitude to all the sisters and girl students who participated in the Raksha Bandhan programme at Lok Bhavan, the Governor said that their affection and good wishes had further enhanced the warmth and spirit of the festival.
