Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) visited Haridwar on Tuesday to review preparations for the Kanwar Mela and ensure its safe, orderly, and peaceful conduct. During his visit, he inspected the state-of-the-art CCTV Control Room established at the Kanwar Mela Control Centre. He was briefed by officials on security arrangements, crowd management, traffic regulation, sanitation measures, and the various facilities being provided to devotees.
The Governor emphasized that the safety and convenience of every pilgrim should remain the administration’s highest priority. He directed officials to ensure all arrangements are made well in advance, taking into account the continuous increase in the number of devotees, and to deploy adequate manpower and resources wherever required.
He said that lessons learned from last year’s Kanwar Mela should be used to further strengthen and improve this year’s arrangements. Stressing the importance of public participation, he also instructed officials to maintain close coordination with voluntary organizations, social groups, and local residents.
Highlighting the importance of cleanliness, the Governor reviewed the operation of mechanized sweeping machines and directed officials to ensure regular sanitation across the entire fair area so that devotees can enjoy a clean and safe environment.
He further instructed that all personnel deployed for the Mela should receive proper briefing regarding their responsibilities to ensure prompt and coordinated action in any situation. He also suggested recognizing and honouring officials, employees, and volunteers who perform exceptionally well, to boost morale and encourage a culture of excellence.
The Governor emphasized the optimum utilization of available infrastructure, the adoption of modern technologies, and the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He noted that AI can play a significant role in surveillance, crowd management, and disaster response during the Mela.
During the inspection, District Magistrate Mayur Dixit and Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar briefed the Governor on the major Kanwar routes, traffic arrangements, sensitive locations, crowd management measures, continuous CCTV monitoring, the functioning of the control room, and coordination among various departments.
Later, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) visited Brahmakund at Har Ki Pauri, where he participated in the Ganga Aarti and offered prayers with traditional rituals. He prayed to Goddess Ganga for the safe, secure, and successful conduct of the Kanwar Yatra, as well as for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the people of Uttarakhand and the nation.
The visit was attended by District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar, Municipal Commissioner Nandan Kumar, SP (Communications) Vipin Kumar, SP (Traffic) Nisha Yadav, Additional District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar, Additional Kumbh Mela Officer Dayanand Saraswati, City Magistrate Har Giri, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Yogesh Kumar, CO City Shishupal Singh Negi, CO Traffic Beepender Kumar, along with senior officials from the Mela administration, police, and other concerned departments.
