Governor Extends Greetings to the People of the State on the Occasion of Harela Festival

Lok Bhavan Dehradun 15 July, 2026

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) has extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Uttarakhand on the occasion of the Harela festival. He said that the festival is a unique symbol of Uttarakhand’s rich folk traditions, cultural consciousness, and reverence for nature. Harela is not merely a festival but a public message promoting environmental conservation and a sustainable, green way of life.

The Governor stated that at a time when the world is facing serious challenges such as climate change, global warming, and pollution, the Harela festival inspires people to live in harmony with nature. He emphasized that the conservation of trees, water resources, and land is closely linked to the very survival of humanity, and every citizen should play an active role in protecting the environment. He added that Harela reminds us of our roots, our culture, and our deep bond with nature.

The Governor appealed to all citizens to plant at least one sapling on the occasion of Harela and to pledge to nurture and care for it. He particularly highlighted the importance of the participation of children, youth, and women, saying that the contribution of every section of society is essential to transform environmental conservation into a people’s movement.
