Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) on Wednesday released the book “From Past to Present: Nainital’s Journey and the Remarkable Story of the Construction of the Gothic Raj Bhavan” and launched the AI Heritage & Tourism App, developed under the guidance of the AI Theme Room, at a program held at Lok Bhavan. On the occasion, he said that the integration of heritage and innovation is the foundation of a Developed India. Our historical heritage connects us to our roots, while modern technology shows us the direction of the future. He added that to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (“Development as well as Heritage”), it is essential to give equal importance to both cultural preservation and technological innovation.

On this occasion, the Governor said that Lok Bhavan is not merely an architectural structure, but a living center of Uttarakhand’s administrative, cultural, and historical memories. From the colonial period to independent India and the formation of the state of Uttarakhand, this building has witnessed many significant events. He noted that the story of its construction, completed nearly 125 years ago under extremely challenging circumstances, is an inspiring example of human determination, hard work, and foresight.

The Governor said that the story of this historic heritage should not remain confined to archives alone; it must be passed on to future generations. It was with this objective that the book was conceived. Congratulating the author, senior journalist, academic, and researcher Dr. Girish Ranjan Tiwari, he said that the book is not only a history of the construction of Raj Bhavan, but also an important document of Nainital’s cultural journey, Uttarakhand’s heritage, and the social environment of that era.

Speaking about the AI Heritage & Tourism App, the Governor said that in the present age of artificial intelligence, technology should not be viewed merely as a means of convenience, but as a powerful tool for the preservation of culture, history, and society. He said that the app is an innovative effort to digitally bring the rich heritage of Lok Bhavan, Nainital, and Uttarakhand to the masses.

The Governor stated that the app offers features such as AI Heritage Guide, Smart Itinerary Planner, and Interactive Time Capsule, through which tourists and researchers will be able to access historical information and enjoy travel experiences tailored to their interests. He made special mention of the “Hidden Gems” feature, saying that it will allow local residents to share information about lesser-known but important cultural, historical, and natural sites in their area, thereby benefiting local communities and small businesses as well.

The Governor said that tourism in Uttarakhand is not merely an economic activity, but is closely linked to culture, folk traditions, faith, and natural heritage. Therefore, the state must promote a tourism model that is sensitive, responsible, and empowering for local communities.

He further said that the vision of Developed India 2047 is not limited to economic progress alone, but also includes building an India that is culturally aware, technologically capable, environmentally sensitive, and deeply connected to its roots. The book released today connects us with our past, while the AI Heritage & Tourism App points toward the future. Together, they present the image of an India that takes pride in its heritage and moves forward with innovation.

The Governor congratulated Mr. Siddharth Madhav, the technical experts, researchers, and collaborators associated with this initiative, and expressed confidence that both the book and the digital platform would serve as exemplary models in the fields of heritage conservation, cultural awareness, and responsible tourism.

Present on the occasion were Financial Controller Dr. Tripti Srivastava, Joint Director Information Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, book author Dr. Girish Ranjan Tiwari, app creator Siddharth Madhav, publisher Santosh Singh, as well as senior faculty members and students of Kumaun University.
