Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated in a program held on Wednesday at the Himalayan Ashram, Satkhol, in Nainital district. On this occasion, he took part in a meditation session and learned about the various spiritual and public welfare activities being conducted by the Ashram.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the land of Uttarakhand has, for centuries, been a center of spiritual practice, self-reflection, and human welfare. He remarked that the Himalayas are not merely a range of mountains but a symbol of consciousness that inspires individuals toward self-discovery and an inner journey.
He stated that the Himalayan Ashram, Satkhol, is not only a center for meditation and spiritual practice but is also carrying out inspiring work for the holistic development of society.
The Governor observed that in the present era, people are surrounded by numerous responsibilities, challenges, and busy schedules. In such circumstances, meditation offers an opportunity to reconnect with oneself, establish mental balance, and develop a positive outlook on life. He added that only when a person’s mind is calm and balanced can they effectively fulfill their responsibilities toward their family, society, and the nation.
Sharing his experiences, the Governor said that he had previously visited the global Heartfulness center in Hyderabad. There, he personally witnessed how meditation, spiritual growth, and human values are being used to bring positive changes in people’s lives. He emphasized that spirituality is not confined to any one place, community, or tradition; rather, it is a universal necessity for every individual.
The Governor noted that the natural and spiritual environment of Satkhol helps people connect with themselves. He appreciated the Ashram’s “Brighter Minds” program for children and its efforts to promote the cultivation of aromatic and medicinal plants among farmers. He said that the future of any society depends on the talent of its children and the prosperity of its farmers, and that investments in these two areas lay a strong foundation for nation-building.
He further stated that in this age of science and technology, the importance of mental balance, self-discipline, and inner peace has increased alongside material progress. He stressed that Uttarakhand’s development requires maintaining a balance between modernity and tradition, development and environmental conservation, as well as material advancement and spiritual values.
Commending the spiritual and public welfare initiatives undertaken by the Himalayan Ashram, Satkhol, the Governor expressed confidence that the Ashram would continue to play a significant role in bringing positive change to society in the future.
