Lok Bhavan Nainital 26 May, 2026
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) on Tuesday launched the ‘Fin Bodh’ and ‘Uttaravani’ apps, along with the Assistant Homestay Manager course material developed by Uttarakhand Open University, at Lok Bhawan. On this occasion, he described these initiatives as an important step towards strengthening Uttarakhand’s economic, cultural, and tourism potential.
The Governor said that the ‘Fin Bodh’ app is an innovative medium to deliver financial literacy to people in a simple and practical manner. He stated that financial awareness has become extremely important in today’s time, and it is essential for youth to have knowledge about revenue, investment, asset management, and financial assets. He added that the younger generation learns quickly through app-based platforms, and ‘Fin Bodh’ is an effective and progressive initiative in this direction.
The Governor described the ‘Uttaravani’ app as an important effort towards the preservation and promotion of Uttarakhand’s folk culture, languages, and traditions. He said that the app would provide a broad platform for Kumaoni, Garhwali, Jaunsari, and other dialects, folk songs, and cultural heritage. Advancing the concept of community radio, this platform will help connect people living in remote mountainous regions, preserve local knowledge and culture, and take them to a global audience.
Regarding the Assistant Homestay Manager course material, the Governor said that it is an important initiative to connect the youth of Uttarakhand with self-employment and skill development. He stated that homestay tourism is rapidly emerging in the state, creating employment and livelihood opportunities for local youth within their own villages. He added that the course material would train youth in homestay management, hospitality, and providing better services in line with the tradition of “Atithi Devo Bhava,” thereby giving a new direction to the tourism sector of the state.
Congratulating the university family for all three initiatives, the Governor said that these efforts would make a significant contribution to Uttarakhand’s economic development, cultural preservation, and employment generation.
Secretary to the Governor Shri Ravinath Raman, Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Naveen Chandra Lohani, Registrar Hem Raj Bhatt, along with directors and faculty members of the university, were present on the occasion.
