    Hon’ble Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) held separate meetings on Tuesday at Lok Bhawan with Vice Chancellor of Kumaun University Prof. Diwan Singh Rawat, Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Open University Prof. Naveen Chandra Lohani, and Vice Chancellor of Soban Singh Jeena University Prof. Satpal Singh Bisht. During the meetings, discussions were held regarding academic activities, research, innovation, and issues related to the holistic development of students in the universities.

    During the meetings, the Vice Chancellors briefed the Governor about academic programmes, research initiatives, skill development activities, innovation-driven efforts, and measures being undertaken to connect students with employment-oriented education.

    The Governor emphasized the need to promote quality education, research, innovation, and employment-oriented courses in higher educational institutions. He stated that universities must prepare students to meet future challenges effectively.

    The Governor said that connecting students with modern technology, startups, entrepreneurship, innovation, and skill development has become the need of the hour so that they can emerge not only as job seekers but also as job creators.

    He also stressed the importance of motivating youth towards self-employment and self-reliance and promoting community participation-based activities to strengthen the connection between universities and society. He stated that the objective of universities should not be limited to awarding degrees, but should also focus on the holistic personality and skill development of students.

    The Governor reviewed the status of vacant academic positions in the universities and directed that complete transparency be ensured in recruitment processes. He said that the appointment process must be fair, transparent, and time-bound to provide students with a better academic environment.

    The Governor also reviewed the infrastructure facilities available in the universities and directed officials to focus on their strengthening and expansion. He stated that strong basic infrastructure is essential for delivering quality education.
