Hon’ble Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated in a programme on “Advanced Trauma Care, Organ Donation and Nursing Excellence” held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Rishikesh on Tuesday. On the occasion, he honoured nursing officers for their outstanding contribution in the field of nursing and also felicitated organ donors and their family members.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that trauma care, organ donation, and nursing excellence are not merely subjects of medical science, but three powerful pillars dedicated to the service of humanity. He stated that these represent compassion, sensitivity, and responsibility towards human life.

The Governor said that nursing service is a living embodiment of compassion, dedication, and maternal care. For critically ill patients, nurses are not merely healthcare professionals, but symbols of trust, support, and emotional strength. Expressing deep respect for the nursing profession, he described nurses as exemplary contributors to humanitarian service in society.

Highlighting the importance of trauma management, the Governor said that the “Golden Hour” following an accident is extremely crucial and that timely medical treatment can significantly reduce mortality rates. He noted that the role of effective trauma management becomes even more important in a geographically challenging and mountainous state like Uttarakhand.

Emphasizing the importance of organ donation, the Governor described it as the highest form of humanitarian contribution that offers a new lease of life to another person. He said that while the human body is mortal, donated organs continue to serve humanity beyond life itself. He called upon society to spread awareness regarding organ donation, stating that it has the potential to save countless lives.

The Governor expressed satisfaction that AIIMS Rishikesh is strengthening healthcare services through the effective use of modern technologies such as helicopter ambulances, telemedicine, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and drones. He also appreciated innovations in AI-based healthcare technologies, robotics, advanced diagnostics, ophthalmology, and dental sciences.

Among those present on the occasion were Rishikesh Mayor Shambhu Paswan, Chairperson of the State Women Commission Kusum Kandwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Dr. Meenu Singh, Head of Trauma Care Dr. Qamar Azam, Dr. Shailendu Shankar, Colonel Binu Sharma, Dr. Madhur Uniyal, members of the medical staff of AIIMS Rishikesh, and other distinguished guests.
