Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) attended the 18th National Convention of the Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha in New Delhi today as Chief Guest. On the occasion, he honoured members of the organisation for their outstanding contributions.

Addressing the National Convention, the Governor stated that the organisation is not merely a platform for ex-servicemen but a vibrant force in nation-building, bringing together experience and youthful energy to guide society.

He remarked that retired soldiers are like a moving academy for society. The responsibility of a soldier does not end with the removal of the uniform. He called upon ex-servicemen to actively contribute in areas such as education, healthcare, rural development and youth mentorship. He emphasised that in the present times, society needs disciplined and vigilant networks, in which the role of Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha is highly significant.

The Governor observed that time spent in the Armed Forces instils discipline, confidence and the spirit of “Nation First” among youth. He encouraged young people to come forward and consider national service and defence as their duty.

Linking the empowerment and development of border areas with national security, he referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vibrant Villages Programme initiative, which envisions border villages as the “first villages” of the country. He noted that preventing migration and strengthening frontier areas is a strategic necessity, and ex-servicemen can play a vital role in this mission.

The Governor further stated that the New India of today is confident and progressing rapidly towards self-reliance in the defence sector. With emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, drones and cyber security, India is preparing for global leadership. He emphasised that achieving the goal of a Developed India by 2047 requires every citizen to work with the discipline, dedication and “Nation First” spirit of a soldier.
