    Prof. (Dr.) Manmohan Singh Chauhan, Vice-Chancellor of Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, called on Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday as a courtesy visit.

    During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor briefed the Governor in detail about the Uttarakhand State Inter-University Sports Tournament scheduled to be held from February 23 to 26, 2026, at Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. He informed that during a previous meeting of Vice-Chancellors convened by the Governor, directions were issued to organise regular sports competitions among state universities. The upcoming tournament is being conducted in compliance with those directives.

    He further stated that more than 1,700 athletes from 11 state universities across Uttarakhand are expected to participate in the event. The competitions will include athletics, volleyball, football, kabaddi and kho-kho, among other sports disciplines.

    The Vice-Chancellor also informed the Governor about the proposed Convocation Ceremony to be held at the University in March, during which the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated. Elaborate preparations are underway in view of the proposed visit.

    The Governor observed that sports provide a significant platform for youth to bring laurels to the State and the nation at national and international levels. He emphasised that universities must give special attention to strengthening sports infrastructure and training facilities to nurture talent. He expressed hope that such competitions would promote healthy competition among universities and play a vital role in the holistic development of students.
