The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), participated as the Chief Guest in the Sixth Convocation Ceremony of Shri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University on Friday. At the convocation held at the Pandit Lalit Mohan Sharma Campus, Rishikesh, the Governor conferred degrees upon successful students and awarded gold medals to those securing the highest marks, extending his congratulations to all. On this occasion, he also honoured teachers rendering outstanding services. The Governor further inaugurated a guest house, Type-5 residential quarters, and a multipurpose building on the campus.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that more than the achievements of students, it is the joy visible on the faces of their parents and teachers that brings the greatest satisfaction, and that this sight represents society’s greatest success. Expressing happiness, he noted that 21,664 students of the University received their degrees today and are set to become active participants in the nation-building process. He stated that the young and “Amrit Generation” of India will play a decisive role in realizing the vision of a developed nation by 2047.

Congratulating the gold medalists, the Governor said that their confidence, energy, and leadership qualities were clearly evident, and expressed confidence that they would emerge as future leaders. He added that a gold medal is the result of hard work, discipline, and dedication, and is not achieved by everyone.

The Governor emphasized that leadership is not merely about holding a position, but about shouldering responsibility. He urged students that after obtaining their degrees, they should not limit themselves to being job seekers, but should aspire to become job creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators. He advised the youth to stay away from addiction, corruption, and selfishness, and called upon them to dream big and become karmayogis to turn those dreams into reality.

Appreciating the academic and research achievements of the University, the Governor said that the publication of research papers and registration of patents reflect a strong research culture. He stated that research and innovation will make India a global leader, and that patent registration is a significant step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. He also praised alumni engagement and student clubs formed across various disciplines, which contribute to the holistic development of students.

The Governor highlighted the need to integrate India’s ancient civilization, culture, and knowledge traditions with modern technologies, calling it the greatest opportunity of the 21st century. Commending the unity of the University community, he said that “strength in unity” is India’s greatest identity.
