The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), visited the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) in New Delhi on Tuesday and held a meeting with SIDM office-bearers and representatives. On this occasion, he was briefed on current activities, emerging technologies, and future plans related to the defence manufacturing sector.

During the meeting, the Governor stated that India’s defence strength does not depend solely on weapons, but is built upon strong institutions, mutual cooperation, and a robust industrial ecosystem. He noted that India is rapidly progressing towards self-reliance in the defence sector, and organisations such as SIDM play a vital role as a bridge between the government and industry in achieving this objective.

The Governor said that Uttarakhand, which has traditionally contributed a large number of personnel to the armed forces, is now prepared to expand its role in defence manufacturing and allied services as well. He highlighted that the state offers good road connectivity, industrial infrastructure, and a skilled human resource base.

During the interaction, the Governor invited SIDM representatives to visit Uttarakhand and stated that the state provides a conducive, secure, and supportive environment for the defence industry. He urged industry representatives to invest in Uttarakhand and bring advanced technologies to the state, thereby strengthening the defence sector further.

He added that Uttarakhand can make a significant contribution to the national defence industry through supporting roles such as training, maintenance, and technical collaboration.
