14-01-2026 : Governor paid floral tributes to the brave martyrs at Shaurya Sthal during a programme organised by Uttarakhand Sub Area on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans Day.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) paid floral tributes to the brave martyrs at Shaurya Sthal during a programme organised by Uttarakhand Sub Area on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans Day. On this occasion, the Governor honoured Veer Naris (war widows) and veterans for their outstanding contributions and expressed his gratitude for their dedicated service to the nation. He also interacted with ex-servicemen, serving soldiers, and Veer Naris present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that the principle of “Nation First”, which veterans have lived by throughout their lives, serves as a powerful source of inspiration for society as a whole. He stated that a soldier remains a soldier till his last breath, and continues to teach society the values of discipline, commitment, and unity. During the programme, the Governor expressed special appreciation for the Veer Naris and said that caring for the families and dependents of martyrs is our supreme duty and responsibility.
The Governor further said that every veteran embodies leadership qualities, dedication, discipline, and a strong drive for excellence, which makes them ideal role models for society. He noted that veterans can make invaluable contributions to nation-building not only during military service but also in civilian life, guided by discipline and a spirit of public welfare. He added that veterans can play a significant role in strengthening various economic initiatives underway in the state, such as the Honey Revolution, Aroma Revolution, Millet Revolution, homestays, and Self-Help Groups.
The programme was attended by Minister for Military Welfare Shri Ganesh Joshi, GOC Uttarakhand Sub Area Major General M.P.S. Gill, serving officers, JCOs and other ranks from Dehradun Station, veterans, and their family members.
