A one-day programme on the theme “Effective Use of AI in the Healthcare Sector” was organised at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday. The programme was organised by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, and was attended by Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat.

During the programme, Mr C. V. Venkata Subrahmanyam, Chief Operating Officer, CRMIT, Bengaluru, highlighted the utility of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field and shared insights on the effective use of the AI-based application “Dhanvantari”. Dr Ankur Mittal, Head of the Department of Urology, AIIMS Rishikesh, shared important information on modern methods of diagnosis and treatment with the help of AI, along with key insights related to urological cancers.

Addressing the programme as the Chief Guest, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) said that understanding and adopting AI and technology is a necessity of the 21st century. He stated that the present era is the era of AI, and societies and nations that effectively embrace technology will move ahead.

The Governor said that India has rapidly adopted AI, and today its impact is visible across sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, planning and many others. The growing role of AI in healthcare is strengthening medical services. He emphasised that by adopting AI as a supportive tool for doctors, their efficiency and capabilities can be further enhanced.

He said that AI is not merely a technological innovation, but a powerful means to improve the quality of human life and make healthcare services more accessible, effective and reliable. Through AI-based technologies, significant progress has been made in accurate diagnosis, early detection of diseases, personalised medicine and drug research. This is taking healthcare beyond the concept of “one-size-fits-all” towards “one patient–one solution.”

Highlighting the importance of AI in the context of Uttarakhand, the Governor said that considering the state’s geographical conditions, AI can play a crucial role in delivering better healthcare services to people living in hilly and remote areas, especially those at the last mile. He described this as a revolutionary change and stressed that everyone must become a part of it. He urged people to change their mindset and adopt AI and modern technology without hesitation.

On this occasion, Health Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat shared information about departmental schemes and stated that the suggestions received from experts during the seminar would be implemented. He said that over the past 25 years, the state has made remarkable progress in the healthcare sector. Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Kumar Tripathi spoke about the objectives of the programme and expressed gratitude to all participants.

The programme was attended by Additional Secretary Mrs Reena Joshi, Dean Dr Geeta Jain, Registrar Dr Ashish Uniyal, several dignitaries and students from various colleges.
