16-12-2025 : On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, the Governor paid tribute to the brave martyrs by laying a wreath at Shaurya Sthal in Dehradun.
On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) on Tuesday paid floral tributes at Shaurya Sthal, Dehradun, to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives in the supreme sacrifice for the defence of the motherland. On this occasion, the Governor interacted with serving and veteran soldiers present there and appreciated their invaluable contribution towards safeguarding the nation.
Recalling the historic, strategic and decisive victory of the 1971 India–Pakistan War, the Governor said that the war remains a golden chapter in India’s military history. Displaying exceptional valour, courage and brilliant military strategy, the Indian Armed Forces not only compelled 93,000 enemy soldiers to surrender, but also paved the way for the creation of a new nation — Bangladesh.
The Governor said that the Armed Forces’ superior strategy, rigorous training, precise planning, discipline, dedication and unwavering commitment to the nation serve as a source of inspiration and guidance for all citizens. He emphasized that caring for the families of soldiers who were martyred or injured in the war 54 years ago is a collective responsibility of society. On Vijay Diwas, he called upon everyone to reaffirm their commitment to the honour, security and welfare of these families.
The Governor further stated that India is currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation in the areas of modernisation, technological innovation, future warfare capabilities and military preparedness, which will further strengthen the nation’s security and defence capabilities.
He said that Vijay Diwas is not merely a day to remember past victories, but also an occasion for introspection and renewed resolve. He emphasized the need to remain constantly vigilant and strengthened to meet future challenges and both internal and external security requirements.
On this occasion, GOC Sub Area, Uttarakhand, Major General M. P. S. Gill, Joint Chief Hydrographer Rear Admiral Piyush Pausi, along with serving and retired military officers, JCOs and soldiers were present.
