Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) inaugurated a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service Training Program at AIIMS Rishikesh today. The three-day training program has commenced in collaboration with the French Academy of Medicine and Airbus Foundation. The program will equip doctors, paramedical staff, technicians, and pilots with advanced emergency medical response skills. The Governor described this initiative as a “life-saving mission” and “a new ray of hope” for a mountainous state like Uttarakhand.

The Governor said that receiving medical assistance within the “golden hour” after a disaster or accident is crucial for saving lives. Due to road blockages, landslides, and challenging geographical conditions in hilly regions, timely treatment often becomes difficult. In such circumstances, Helicopter Medical Services will prove to be a boon for Uttarakhand.

He added that providing treatment onboard a helicopter is a highly complex task, requiring specialized expertise and quick decision-making abilities. This trained team will play a vital role in saving countless lives in the future. Appreciating the collaboration by the French Academy of Medicine and Airbus Foundation with India, the Governor said that such knowledge-sharing will further strengthen the nation’s healthcare framework and provide doctors and students exposure to global standards.

The Governor emphasized that considering Uttarakhand’s geographical challenges, innovations such as AI-based diagnostics, drone-enabled delivery of medicines, telemedicine, and heli-ambulance services will significantly enhance the healthcare system in the coming years. He expressed confidence that this service will usher in a revolutionary transformation in emergency healthcare not only in Uttarakhand but across the country.

Applauding AIIMS Rishikesh for launching a free Helicopter Emergency Medical Service under Project Sanjeevani, he called it a “true service to humanity.” He also appreciated the coordinated support of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, and the Government of Uttarakhand.

Present on the occasion were AIIMS Rishikesh Director Dr. Meenu Singh, Dean Academics Prof. Jaya Chaturvedi, Secretary General of the French Academy of Medicine Richard Willette, Dr. Qamar Azam, Dr. Madhur Uniyal, along with other dignitaries.
