26-11-2025 : Governor launched the “Uttarakhand AI Mission–2025” policy at Raj Bhawan.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) launched the “Uttarakhand AI Mission–2025” policy at Raj Bhawan today. The Governor said that technology has become central to progress in the 21st century and no sector today is untouched by it. Inclusive and sustainable development cannot be imagined without the integration of technology.
The Governor said that in line with the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi as well as the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand to adopt emerging future technologies, the state has taken a significant step by launching the AI Mission–2025. Leveraging satellite data and real-time digital solutions, Artificial Intelligence will help address challenges faced in daily life and accelerate development.
Recalling the Prime Minister’s statement that “the third decade of the 21st century belongs to Uttarakhand”, the Governor said this futuristic policy would play a crucial role in transforming this vision into reality. He also highlighted key challenges associated with modern technology such as digital divide, ethics and accountability, emphasizing that Uttarakhand must remain committed to an ethically responsible and human-centric AI implementation so that benefits reach the last person in society, including remote mountain regions and marginalized groups.
The Governor called upon the startup ecosystem and research institutions working in the domain of new-age technologies to contribute meaningfully towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat @2047, noting that their innovative solutions will play an important role in nation-building.
He appreciated the Prime Minister’s global leadership in promoting responsible, inclusive and ethical AI usage and development, with initiatives being introduced on various international platforms.
Earlier, Secretary IT, Shri Nitesh Jha gave a detailed presentation on the AI Mission–2025. He informed that the policy has been aligned with the National AI Policy framework and customized to the topography of the Himalayan state to ensure maximum relevance and efficiency. He elaborated on the mission’s objectives, strategy, priority sectors, roadmap, capacity building measures and implementation plan.
A presentation on “Global Developments in Artificial Intelligence and Their Impact on Uttarakhand” was also delivered by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. This was followed by a panel discussion on “AI in Healthcare – Transforming Health Delivery in Uttarakhand” and “Building a Holistic AI Ecosystem in Uttarakhand”, where various startup teams showcased their innovative solutions.
Five best startups from diverse industries and five top technical institutions were recognized for their technology-driven, solution-oriented research contributions. The Governor felicitated all selected teams for their outstanding innovation.
The event was attended by Secretary to Governor Shri Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretaries Smt. Reena Joshi and Shri Alok Kumar Pandey, Director General UCOST Dr. Durgesh Pant, Joint Director Information Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, distinguished experts from the tech industry, mentors, faculty members and students.
