03-11-2025:President Graces the Event Marking 125 Years of Raj Bhawan Nainital’s Establishment
Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu graced the programme organized to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Raj Bhawan Nainital. On this occasion, she inaugurated the Virtual Tour of Raj Bhawan Nainital. Through this virtual tour, people will be able to experience the digital journey of this historic Raj Bhawan. The virtual tour will introduce viewers to the architectural grandeur, natural beauty, and historical significance of Raj Bhawan. It can be accessed through the official website — governoruk.gov.in.
A short film based on Raj Bhawan Nainital was also screened on the occasion. The film beautifully showcases the glorious legacy, architectural splendour, and historical importance of Raj Bhawan Nainital. Through this film, viewers can learn about its history, unique architectural features, and the state’s rich heritage.
The President said that just as Rashtrapati Bhawan in independent India symbolizes the Republic, Raj Bhawans in the states represent the essence of democratic governance. She noted that since the formation of Uttarakhand, this historic building has become an integral part of the state’s progress.
The President emphasized that in the parliamentary system, the Governor is the constitutional head of the state’s administration. The framers of the Constitution defined the powers and responsibilities of the Governor after deep deliberation. She stated that the people of the state regard Raj Bhawan as a place of dignity; therefore, everyone associated with the Governor’s office must embody qualities such as simplicity, humility, integrity, and sensitivity.
Expressing happiness over Uttarakhand’s continuous progress and prosperity since its formation, the President said she was confident that the Governor and his team would continue to inspire the people of the state and that Uttarakhand would keep moving ahead on the path of development.
On this occasion, Governor Lt. General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) warmly welcomed President Smt. Droupadi Murmu on her first visit to Raj Bhawan Nainital. He said that it was a moment of immense pride and honour for Uttarakhand. The Governor expressed heartfelt gratitude to the President for her affection, guidance, and continuous association with the state.
The Governor stated that as Raj Bhawan Nainital completes its glorious 125-year journey, this milestone represents a unique confluence of the pride of the past, the creativity of the present, and the inspiration for the future.
He further said that the launch of the 3D Virtual Tour of Raj Bhawan Nainital is a fine example of the Digital India vision, where technology serves not just as a tool for convenience but as a powerful medium for the preservation of culture and heritage.
The Governor noted that the short film based on Raj Bhawan Nainital vividly brings the state’s legacy to life. The film conveys the message that the harmony between tradition, architecture, and nature is the true inspiration for our life values.
The event also featured cultural performances based on Uttarakhand’s rich folk traditions, offering guests glimpses of the state’s cultural diversity, local customs, and vibrant folk dances.

The programme was attended by Hon’ble Chief Justice Justice G. Narendra, Cabinet Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat (representing the Chief Minister), and several other dignitaries.
