Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated in the valedictory session of the two-day “Chintan Shivir” organised by the Higher Education Department at a hotel on Rajpur Road on Thursday. The event witnessed participation from senior officials of higher education departments, vice-chancellors, and eminent educationists from various states across the country.

Addressing the session, the Governor said that the Chintan Shivir served as a meaningful platform for policy formulation, reform, and innovation in the field of higher education. He stated that education is not merely the dissemination of knowledge but a powerful means of character building, perspective development, and nation-building.

The Governor emphasized that India’s greatest strength lies in its youth power, which is its most valuable asset. He said that universities hold the responsibility of channelizing this youth energy in the right direction, enhancing their skills, and aligning their potential with nation-building. He added that universities must ensure that they not only impart knowledge but also instill values, vision, and a sense of responsibility among students.

Highlighting the need for quality education, innovation, and research, the Governor said these are the true demands of the present era. He stressed that to make the 21st century the “Century of India,” universities must prepare themselves for global-level competition. He also underlined the importance of integrating Indian ethos, culture, and moral values into higher education so that it becomes not merely a means of livelihood but a guide to meaningful living.

The Governor urged universities to focus on skill-based education, enabling students to become job creators rather than job seekers. He said that universities should nurture youth who are self-reliant, innovative, and socially responsible.

Calling for concrete steps towards creating “Drug-Free Campuses,” the Governor said that a disciplined, healthy, and inspiring academic environment forms the foundation of quality education. He expressed confidence that this Chintan Shivir would infuse new thinking, vision, and energy into the higher education sector. He believed that the ideas and resolutions emerging from the event would elevate the quality, relevance, and impact of higher education.

On this occasion, Higher Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat highlighted the ongoing initiatives and future roadmap for higher education in the state. Secretary Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha provided details of the sessions and discussions held during the two-day Chintan Shivir. Additional Secretary Shri Manuj Goyal extended the vote of thanks.
