27-09-2025 : Governor Inaugurates Four New Branches of Uttarakhand Gramin Bank
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) inaugurated four new branches of Uttarakhand Gramin Bank on Saturday from Dehradun. Among these, he opened the Krishali Chowk branch on Sahastradhara Road in person and virtually inaugurated three other branches—Chamyala in Tehri district, Lalpur Nayak in Nainital district, and Naugaon Khal in Pauri district.
At the Krishali Chowk branch, the Governor viewed products displayed by self-help groups and interacted with the women entrepreneurs. On this occasion, he also opened his own account with Uttarakhand Gramin Bank, expressing his trust and support for the institution.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that banks are not merely centers of financial transactions but are channels of development and trust. They safeguard the hard-earned savings of society and reinvest them into production and progress. Gramin banks, he noted, play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy and connecting people with banking services.
Praising the achievements of Uttarakhand Gramin Bank, the Governor highlighted its contributions to rural development, women’s empowerment, and self-reliance. Nearly 20 percent of the state’s population benefits from the bank’s services. He especially commended the bank’s efforts to support self-help groups and promote green energy, expressing confidence that the institution will continue to innovate and serve the prosperity of the people.
The Governor added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, significant strides have been made in financial inclusion. Schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana, Aadhaar integration, mobile banking, and digital transactions have transformed the financial landscape. He noted that India is currently the world’s fourth-largest economy and is steadily moving toward becoming the third largest, with banking and digital payment systems playing a major role.
Present on the occasion were CGM NABARD RO Dehradun Mr. Pankaj Yadav, Regional Director RBI Dehradun Mr. Arvind Kumar, Chairman UGB Mr. Hari Har Pattnaik, GM Corporate Centre SBI Mumbai Mr. Prakash Chandra Baror, GM Amita Raturi, and other dignitaries.
