24-09-2025 : Governor met Chief Information Commissioner Smt. Radha Raturi at Raj Bhawan.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) met Chief Information Commissioner Smt. Radha Raturi at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday. Information Commissioners Shri Yogesh Bhatt, Shri Dalip Singh Kunwar, Shri Devendra Kumar, and Shri Kushla Nand were also present.
The Chief Information Commissioner briefed the Governor on the Commission’s activities, achievements, and ongoing initiatives to strengthen transparency. She informed that the Commission is completing 20 years since its establishment. During this period, Public Information Officers across the state have received 13,46,817 applications. First Appellate Authorities have received 1,35,430 applications, while 59,750 applications have reached the Commission itself, of which 58,719 have been resolved. Currently, only 1,031 cases remain pending and are under process.
Smt. Raturi highlighted that the Commission has introduced online facilities for second appeals and complaints. Applicants can now upload written statements, compliance reports, and other documents online, and track the status of their appeals and complaints digitally. She noted that second appeals are received primarily from Dehradun (32%) and Haridwar (25%), while Champawat, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Bageshwar districts account for less than 1% of applications.
The Governor emphasized that the Right to Information Act is a powerful tool to build trust, transparency, and accountability between citizens and the administration. He urged that the Act be widely publicized, especially in districts with very few appeals and complaints. He further suggested targeted awareness campaigns in less-informed areas so that more people can access accurate information in a timely manner.
