Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the newly developed “Bhagirath Udyan” at Raj Bhawan on Monday. On this occasion, they also unveiled a magnificent statue of the legendary King Bhagirath.

The nearly 10-foot-tall statue stands on an 8-foot granite pedestal and has been crafted from fibre and resin by renowned Haridwar artist Shivam Chaurasia. The garden is enriched with a variety of plant species, creating a serene and spiritual ambience around the statue.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor said that the statue is not merely a monument but a “living pillar of inspiration.” He added that the blend of stars, nature, temple, and mountains in the garden symbolizes the divine resolve that when the goal is public welfare, divinity and nature open the way. He commended the officers and staff involved in developing the garden.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami remarked that the statue will continually inspire visitors with the ideals of duty, public service, and Indian culture. He emphasized that the figure of King Bhagirath is a reminder that “Bhagirath effort”—extraordinary perseverance—is the path to achieving great objectives.

Prior to the inauguration, the Governor and Chief Minister offered prayers at the Rajpragneshwar Mahadev Temple within the Raj Bhavan premises, seeking prosperity and well-being for the people of the state and the nation.
