On Sunday, First Lady Mrs. Gurmeet Kaur attended the Gorkhali Mahila Haritalika Teej Festival Mela 2025 as the Chief Guest at Mahendra Ground, Garhi Cantt, Dehradun.
The entire ground came alive with festivity as women dressed in vibrant red traditional attire participated enthusiastically. Gorkhali cultural troupes presented captivating folk dances and traditional songs, while renowned Nepali folk singers Asma Banzade and Madhu Pariyar enthralled the audience with their soulful performances.
Extending her greetings on the occasion of Teej, the First Lady commended the efforts of the organizing committee. She said that Haritalika Teej is not merely a festival, but also a symbol of women’s empowerment, family unity, and community harmony. She highlighted how this celebration strengthens cultural heritage while instilling confidence and creativity among women.
Mrs. Gurmeet Kaur further appreciated the Gorkhali Mahila Samiti for organizing this festival continuously for the past 16 years, keeping traditions alive and uniting diverse communities on a common platform. Emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment, she said, “Mothers and sisters are the backbone of families and society. Their contributions must not remain confined to the household but should be equally recognized in social, economic, and cultural spheres.”
