    Publish Date: August 22, 2025

Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd.), on Friday launched a podcast on the theme “Women Empowerment: A Consciousness, A Commitment” at Raj Bhawan. The podcast is dedicated to one of the Governor’s five key missions—Women Empowerment. Earlier, the Governor has shared his thoughts on Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Lifestyle through podcasts. In this special episode, he reflected on the historical context of women, the present scenario, and also shared his personal insights and experiences.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that this initiative is not merely a digital programme, but a commitment to awaken social consciousness and establish women’s dignity and equality in every sphere of life. He stressed that women’s empowerment is not only about granting rights, but also about instilling confidence that society values their thoughts, hard work, and capabilities. He added that when women become self-reliant, the strength of families, society, and the nation multiplies many times over.

The Governor highlighted that in Indian culture, women are seen as symbols of power, creation, and compassion, recalling the contributions of Gargi, Maitreyi, Rani Lakshmibai, and Teelu Rauteli. He further stated that in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, the role of women is unique, as they are the strongest pillar of families. He said that women have always been the backbone of society and the economy, and today daughters of the state are excelling at national and international levels in education, science, and sports.

He emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 can only be realized when half of India’s population—its women—participate equally. He appealed that women’s respect should not remain confined to ideals or worship, but must also be reflected in everyday behaviour and policies. He called for ensuring that no girl is deprived of education, healthcare, or opportunities, and that women take leadership roles in shaping the nation’s future.

On this occasion, the podcast host, Ms. Ankita Joshi, Vice President of Uttaranchal University, shared her experiences of working on the podcast. Also present were Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Joint Director, Dr. Tripti Srivastava, Finance Controller, along with students of Uttaranchal University.
