13-08-2025 : Governor participated in a brief programme organised at Regional Transport Office (RTO) located at Dehradun.
Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), participated in a programme organised at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Dehradun, on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that adherence to road safety and traffic regulations is the responsibility of every citizen, especially in hilly areas where road conditions and weather challenges heighten the risk of accidents. He cautioned that reckless driving endangers not only the driver but also the lives of others.
He emphasised the need to instil awareness of road safety and traffic discipline from the school level so that the coming generations grow into safe and responsible citizens. Highlighting that Uttarakhand receives a large number of tourists drawn by its natural beauty, the Governor urged visitors to follow local traffic rules, observe speed limits, avoid driving under the influence, and prioritise safe driving practices.
Commending the RTO’s initiative of designating one day a week for the use of public transport, the Governor noted that such measures help ease traffic congestion and contribute to environmental protection. On the occasion, he honoured drivers with exemplary conduct and Good Samaritans who assisted accident victims.
As part of the visit, the Governor renewed his driving licence at the RTO by following the prescribed procedure, refraining from availing any special privilege. By completing all formalities like any other citizen, he sent a clear message that official processes and regulations apply equally to all and that it is the duty of every individual to comply with the law. He further observed that government services should be transparent, technology-driven, and user-friendly so that citizens can access them without recommendation or preferential treatment.
The programme was attended by RTO (Administration) Sandeep Saini, RTO (Enforcement) Anita Chamola, ARTO (Administration) Chakrapani Mishra, and other officials and staff members.
