Kumbh Mela Officer Ms. Sonika and Inspector General of Police Dr. Yogendra Rawat paid a courtesy visit to Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday. During the meeting, they briefed the Governor in detail on the preparations and arrangements for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
The Governor emphasised the need to give special attention to technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based systems, modern surveillance mechanisms and effective crowd management during the Kumbh Mela. He said that maximum use of available modern technology should be made to ensure the safety of devotees, facilitate smooth movement and provide them with a safe and comfortable experience.
The Governor called for the active participation of various stakeholders, including NCC, universities, ex-servicemen and voluntary organisations, in the arrangements for the Mela. He also stressed that cleanliness and sanitation must be accorded the highest priority. He said that devotees arriving from across the country and abroad should be provided with a clean, safe and convenient environment.
He said that the Kumbh Mela is not merely a religious congregation but also an important occasion linked to Uttarakhand’s cultural identity, tourism, local economy and the overall reputation of the state. Successful organisation of the Mela would provide significant economic and tourism benefits to the state while further strengthening Uttarakhand’s positive image.
The Governor directed all departments and institutions associated with the Kumbh Mela arrangements to ensure continuous coordination and an effective communication mechanism for the smooth and timely execution of all activities.
Kumbh Mela Officer Ms. Sonika informed the Governor that the Kumbh Mela will be held from 1 January to 30 April 2027. A total of 10 bathing festivals, including four Amrit Snans, will be organised during the Mela. She further informed that the Kumbh area has been divided into four districts and 32 sectors, and a comprehensive plan has been prepared to ensure systematic management of the arrangements.
Keeping the convenience of devotees in mind, work on permanent infrastructure, including ghats, bridges and roads, is being expedited. Development of temporary tent cities and other essential facilities is also underway. Special attention is being given to coordination among all line departments associated with the Mela so that all works are completed within the निर्धारित timelines.
The Inspector General of Police, Kumbh, briefed the Governor on the preparations for security and traffic management. He informed that a comprehensive security plan is being prepared, taking into account various possible situations, and that mock drills and other exercises are being conducted accordingly. Effective coordination among the SDRF, police and other security agencies is also being ensured.
