29-09-2025 : Governor Reviews Development Plans and Law & Order in Haridwar
During his visit to Haridwar, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) held a meeting with district officials at Dam Kothi to review ongoing development projects, law-and-order arrangements, and public welfare initiatives.
The Governor said that Haridwar is a city of faith, devotion, and cultural heritage, attracting millions of pilgrims and spiritual seekers throughout the year. He emphasized that special attention must be given to cleanliness and civic management so that Haridwar is recognized not only as a centre of religious tourism but also as a clean, safe, and well-developed city of national and global repute.
He directed officials to prepare a long-term development plan to strengthen religious tourism, infrastructure, and public facilities in the coming years. Reviewing preparations for the upcoming Kumbh Mela, the Governor stressed the need for a solid, well-coordinated strategy and commended the district administration for the successful management of the Kanwar Yatra. He recommended that officers and staff who have performed excellently be recognized and honoured.
Addressing the issue of substance abuse, the Governor instructed strict action against those involved in the illegal trade and urged collective efforts from every section of society to achieve a “Drug-Free Uttarakhand.”
The Governor also called for active participation of ASHA workers, Anganwadi staff, Red Cross members, and ex-servicemen in public welfare schemes and development programmes. District Magistrate Shri Mayur Dikshit briefed him on ongoing development projects, while Senior Superintendent of Police Shri Pramendra Dobal presented the current law-and-order and security status. Other senior administrative officials of the district were also present at the meeting.
