    28-12-2021:Governor awarded 44 meritorious students gold medals on the occasion of Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani.

    Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that both autonomy and accountability are necessary for the universities of the state. We have to move towards self-responsibility. Self-discipline is very important. We have to make our system so strong that there is no space left for leakage.

    Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) was addressing the 6th convocation of Uttarakhand Open University in Haldwani on Tuesday. Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami and Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat were also present on the occasion.

    Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) awarded 44 meritorious students gold medals on the occasion of 6th convocation of Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani. The Governor encouraged the students and said that the students should have faith in themselves. Have faith in teamwork. All the youth are requested to read, understand and follow the Fundamental Duties mentioned in the Indian Constitution. The acquired knowledge of the students will be meaningful only when it will benefit the society. Youth will have an important role in making national campaigns like Atamnirbhar Bharat, clean India, digital India, prosperous India successful.

    Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that the system of Open University is a flexible, simple and accessible . Distance education accounts for more than 10% of the total enrollment in higher education in the country. The Governor said that the Corona era has taught us a lot. The trend of online and digital education has increased. It has become our need today. This has further strengthened the concept of open university. Work will have to be done to make the education system even stronger on digital and virtual mode. In view of the odd geographical conditions of Uttarakhand, it will have to reach every corner of the state. The Governor said that the goal of providing higher education to all can be achieved in the remote areas of the hill state of Uttarakhand through distance education. Distance education is a boon for the hilly and marginal areas of Uttarakhand.

    Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that the curriculum of distance education should be latest, updated, effective and relevant. The text material should contain high level of knowledge and quality material in very simple language.

    On this occasion, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) felicitated Shri Satchidanand Bharti and world famous photographer Shri Anoop Shah with honorary degrees. Governor said that Shri Satchidanand Bharti ji is doing commendable work for reverse migration, forest and environment conservation in the state. Reverse migration is a burning issue for Uttarakhand. He said that the world famous photographer Shri Anoop Shah ji through his excellent photography brought the culture, traditions and natural beauty of Uttarakhand internationally recognized. I myself feel proud by honoring them.

    On this occasion the Vice Chancellor, teachers and students of Uttarakhand Open University were present.
