The Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), met with Ms. Abha Chaudhary, President of Anugrah Sanstha, at Lok Bhavan on Monday. During the meeting, she apprised the Governor of the initiatives undertaken by the organisation for the empowerment and welfare of senior citizens, as well as its upcoming programmes. Anugrah Sanstha works towards the empowerment and holistic development of socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society, with a particular focus on the welfare of senior citizens.

The Governor appreciated the efforts being made by the organisation for the welfare and empowerment of senior citizens. He said that all sections of society need to work collectively to further promote the dignity, health, safety and quality of life of senior citizens. He emphasised greater use of technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to promote their self-reliance, enabling them to use modern technology for their day-to-day needs and thereby reducing their dependence on others.

The Governor said that caring for and respecting senior citizens is a collective responsibility of society. He noted that senior citizens possess a wealth of life experience and knowledge that can greatly benefit society and the younger generation. He stressed the need to connect them with social activities and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement in areas aligned with their interests, experience and capabilities.

The Governor also suggested organising various programmes to raise awareness about the needs and rights of senior citizens. He said that universities, District Magistrates, ex-servicemen and other social organisations could also be involved in such initiatives. He further emphasised the importance of organising dialogue and mentorship programmes to facilitate the sharing of the experience and expertise of senior citizens with the younger generation.
