Governor and Chancellor of State Universities, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), chaired a review meeting of the Vice-Chancellors of Uttarakhand’s state universities at Lok Bhawan on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed the universities’ key achievements, challenges, research and innovation activities, and ongoing efforts to fill vacant faculty and staff positions.

Addressing the Vice-Chancellors, the Governor stressed the need to ensure that every student graduating from the universities is well-equipped to meet the demands of industry, employment, entrepreneurship, and the challenges of the 21st century. He said the objective of universities should not be limited to awarding degrees but should focus on nurturing capable, confident, and socially responsible young individuals committed to nation-building and prepared to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of students’ moral education, mental health, and overall well-being. He urged universities to create a positive and supportive environment that promotes the holistic development of students.

Emphasizing the integrity of the examination system, the Governor called for making university examinations completely secure and reliable. He directed that modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) be effectively integrated into the examination process, with robust verification and re-verification mechanisms at every stage to ensure a leak-proof, error-free, and credible examination system.

He urged universities to strengthen research, patents, innovation, quality infrastructure, and academic standards to improve their performance in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rankings.

He also instructed that the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff be conducted in a fully transparent, fair, and time-bound manner, ensuring that every appointment adheres strictly to prescribed norms.
