27-03-2022:President and First Lady inaugurated the restoration and expansion works of Bonsai Garden at Raj Bhawan

President Shri Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Smt. Savita Kovind inaugurated the restoration and expansion works of Bonsai Garden at Raj Bhawan in Uttarakhand on Sunday. The Governor of Uttarakhand, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) and the state’s first lady Smt. Gurmit Kaur were also present on the occasion. President Shri Ram Nath Kovind highly appreciated this initiative at Raj Bhawan, Uttarakhand and talked about starting a similar initiative in Rashtrapati Bhavan and taking cooperation of Raj Bhawan Uttarakhand in this regard. On the initiative of Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) Bonsai Garden located in the Raj Bhawan complex has been expanded to an area of 1500 square meters. About 220 types of bonsai plants have been preserved in the garden, in which flowering bonsai, fruit bonsai, climbers and various endangered species of bonsai plants have been kept. As envisaged by the Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), a bamboo gate has also been constructed in the Bonsai Garden. The Governor has given instructions to preserve 500 extra plants of very special species in this Bonsai Garden. He said that technical information related to Bonsai should also be available to the general public. It is noteworthy that in this Bonsai Garden of Raj Bhawan, Bonsai trees and plants up to the age of 50 years have been preserved. They are taken care of by scientific method. Scientific names and approximate ages are written on all the plants. Most of these bonsai plants have been transplanted from their original place at the time of construction of Raj Bhawan and preserved in the garden. This Bonsai Garden remains the main attraction for the people who come to the flower show held in Raj Bhawan every year.
Senior officials of Raj Bhawan were also present on this occasion.
