    27-02-2022:Governor flagged off the Atulya Ganga Cyclothon 2022 from Raj Bhawan on Sunday.

    Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that it is the sacred duty and moral responsibility of every Indian to hand over clean water resources to the future generations. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) flagged off the Atulya Ganga Cyclothon 2022 from Raj Bhawan on Sunday. Atulya Ganga Cyclothon 2022 is a campaign to rejuvenate the river Ganga. Under this campaign 1000 ex-servicemen led by Lt Gen Alok Kler will give the message of cleanliness and rejuvenation of Ganga to the people through cycling from Gangotri in Uttarakhand to Gangasagar, Bay of Bengal. This cycling campaign will from 02 March 2022 to 02 April 2022. It is noteworthy that these spirited and passionate ex-servicemen have dedicated the next 11 years of their lives for the rejuvenation of the drying and polluted rivers across the country. These ex-servicemen, through the Atulya Ganga Trust, started this grand campaign from the river Ganges at Raj Bhawan on Sunday.

    Addressing the ex-servicemen associated with the campaign, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that today our environment is facing unprecedented crisis due to global warming and pollution. Especially water pollution is a big challenge before us. A red alert has been issued on the water. Our water quality index is ranked 120. This is a matter of great concern. The Governor said that today it is the duty of every person to take initiative to save water. Especially the youth will have to take initiative to save humanity from water pollution and conserve water. Encouraging the ex-servicemen, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that surely this cycling campaign from Gangotri to Gangasagar would inspire lakhs of youth to rejuvenate rivers. This will give an accurate assessment of pollution. Plantation of trees under this great campaign is highly commendable. The Governor appealed that under this campaign people should be made aware about the ill-effects of plastic on Ganga. He requested that people should not use single used plastic.

    On this occasion Lt. Gen Anil Puri, Brid. Vikas Rohela, Brid. Narendra Charag, Brid. Jayachandran CJ, Col Amit Bisht, Lt Gen Jitendra Krishania and a large number of ex-servicemen who participated in the Cyclothon were present.
