    On the occasion of the 76th Constitution Day, Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) led the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution at Raj Bhawan and administered the pledge to uphold the ideals, duties, values, and guiding principles enshrined in it.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the Constitution is the sacred document of any nation, embodying the aspirations and dreams of its people. Our Constitution and its Preamble reflect the highest ideals and standards that ensure the fulfilment of the hopes and expectations of every citizen.

    The Governor said that the Constitution envisions comprehensive and inclusive development of India, while emphasizing empowerment of the poor, deprived, women, elderly, and persons with disabilities, ensuring they become part of the mainstream. He added that Gandhiji’s philosophy of Antyodaya and Sarvodaya, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision for uplifting the oppressed and marginalized, deeply influence the values of our Constitution. The principles of liberty, equality, secularism, and protection of nature and environment are integral to it.

    He further highlighted that the Constitution incorporates fundamental rights, fundamental duties, directive principles of state policy, independent and impartial judiciary, separation of powers, universal adult franchise, and other strong ethical frameworks that sustain India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic.
