26-10-2021 : Autonomy and accountability are important for the state universities-Governor.

Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (Retd) said that both autonomy and accountability are important for the state universities. State universities should understand the importance of autonomy and ensure accountability to the public interest. Governor Shri Gurmit Singh directed that the Vice Chancellors of the state universities should work on mission mode and pay special attention to maintain the prestige, quality education level, student-centred system, branding, imaging, high standards of the universities. The Governor said that its time to invest in research, technology and quality in higher education. Governor Lt. Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) took a meeting of Vice Chancellors of all state universities and officers of higher education at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Governor Shri Gurmit Singh directed that all the universities will have to work in harmony for the up-gradation of higher education in the state. Our aim is to provide quality higher education to all. The challenges faced in the field of higher education will have to be found through coordinated efforts. Universities have to work for modernization, transformation, artificial intelligence, digitization and new technology. The Covid period has given many opportunities for autonomy to the education world.
Governor Shri Gurmit Singh said that universities are the carriers of new thinking, modern ideas and revolutionary vision. We have to preserve our ancient culture, Sanskrit language, Ayurveda as well as integrate it with the latest technology and make it recognized on the global stage. Governor said that educational institutions have an important role to play in effectively implementing the new education policy in the state.
Governor Shri Gurmit Singh directed to make available the information of the villages adopted by the universities and the information about the vision, mission and aspirations of the Vice Chancellors regarding their universities to the Raj Bhawan. He also talked about honoring meritorious students at the Raj Bhavan.
On this occasion Additional Chief Secretary Smt. Radha Raturi, Secretary to Governor Dr. Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Legal Adviser Shri Amit Kumar Sirohi, VC of GB Pant University, Dr. Tej Pratap, VC of Kumaon University, Dr. N.K. Joshi, VC of Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi, VC of Soban Singh Jeena University Shri Narendra Singh Bhandari, VC of Doon University Dr. Surekha Dangwal, VC of Uttarakhand Open University, Shri OP Negi and Vice Chancellors of all the universities were present.
