    Governor extends Republic Day greetings to the people of the State

    Lok Bhavan Dehradun 25 January, 2026

    The Governor, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the people of Uttarakhand on the occasion of Republic Day. In his message issued on the eve of Republic Day, the Governor paid respectful tribute to the freedom fighters and brave martyrs who dedicated their lives to safeguarding the unity and integrity of the nation. He also bowed in reverence to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, and all the members of the Constituent Assembly.

    The Governor said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is setting new benchmarks of development across all sectors. He noted that India has made a strong global impact in the fields of digital economy, startup culture, defence production, space technology, green energy, and military strength. Owing to initiatives such as Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Digital India, the country has emerged as a reliable partner in the global supply chain and today stands among the world’s fastest-growing economies.

    He stated that from infrastructure development to national security, the country is rapidly progressing towards becoming a strong and prosperous nation. Through the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, food security and dignity have been ensured for over 80 crore citizens. He further said that employment-oriented rural development initiatives are strengthening the foundation of a developed India by making villages self-reliant.

    The Governor observed that Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is actively contributing to India’s journey of progress. Significant achievements have been made in the areas of infrastructure, roads, railways, air connectivity, digital services, and investment. With coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments, Uttarakhand is touching new milestones of development.

    Referring to the vision laid down by the Prime Minister for the State, the Governor said that focused efforts are underway to promote winter pilgrimage, year-round tourism, wedding tourism, development of Uttarakhand as a global spiritual destination, promotion of local products, and the concept of One District–One Fair. He informed that out of MoUs worth ₹3.56 lakh crore received during the Global Investors Summit, investments exceeding ₹1 lakh crore have already materialised on the ground.

    Highlighting the spiritual heritage of the State, the Governor said that yoga and Ayurveda form the soul of Uttarakhand, and the State is being developed as a yoga land and wellness hub. He reiterated the resolve to establish Uttarakhand as a global centre of spirituality, where seekers from across the world can experience peace and renewed energy.

    The Governor lauded the achievements of women and girls of Uttarakhand, stating that they are excelling in education, the armed forces, sports, entrepreneurship, and various other fields. He said that millions of women associated with self-help groups are emerging as Lakhpati Didis, strengthening their families as well as the State’s economy through skill development and technology.

    He also mentioned that through the House of Himalayas brand, Uttarakhand’s pure and organic products are gaining global recognition. Local produce such as mandua, jhangora, and traditional handicrafts are now reaching international markets, setting a strong example of taking Vocal for Local to the global level.

    Referring to the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand, the Governor said that the State has fulfilled the vision of the Constitution’s framers by ensuring equality before the law. He stated that UCC has provided a strong legal framework for the protection and empowerment of women by eliminating discrimination in matters such as inheritance and marriage.

    The Governor said that the present era is defined by technology, including Digital India, Artificial Intelligence, and Quantum Technology. However, he emphasized that technology is a means, not an end, and its true purpose is to make human life simpler, safer, and more empowered. He noted that technology is being increasingly used in Uttarakhand to enhance administrative transparency, disaster management, healthcare, and education, with data-driven and AI-based systems supporting better decision-making.

    The Governor cautioned that while India is capable of confronting external threats, divisive tendencies within society pose a serious challenge. He stressed that vigilance, unity, and collective strength are essential to keep the nation secure, united, and powerful.

    Calling for collective effort to make Uttarakhand the best State in the country, the Governor urged women to strengthen the rural economy through self-help groups, youth to adopt innovation and skill development to transform Uttarakhand into a startup hub, ex-servicemen to contribute to character-building among the youth, and entrepreneurs to create new opportunities in tourism, homestays, and allied sectors.

    The Governor concluded by stating that a strong and prosperous India can be built not only through rights, but through sincere adherence to constitutional duties. He appealed to citizens to uphold constitutional values and contribute wholeheartedly to the building of a new India capable of guiding the world.
