24-12-2025 : Ex serviceman Kalim Singh Bisht, winner of the International Trail Running Competition, paid a courtesy call on the Governor.
Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.) was paid a courtesy call on Wednesday at Lok Bhavan by ex-serviceman Mr. Kalam Singh Bisht. On this occasion, Major General M. L. Aswal (Retd.), President of the Ex-Servicemen Organisation, was also present.
A resident of Mundoli village in Chamoli district, Mr. Kalam Singh Bisht brought laurels to the state and the nation by securing first place in the prestigious international “The Hajar Ultra Trail” race (120 kilometres) held in Oman. The ultra trail running competition was organised from 11 to 13 December 2025 and witnessed participation from some of the world’s top endurance runners. During the race, participants faced extremely challenging conditions, including rocky mountainous terrain, steep ascents, desert stretches and historic mountain routes. Despite these harsh conditions, Mr. Bisht displayed exceptional endurance and indomitable willpower, completing the race in 18 hours to secure first position.
Congratulating Mr. Kalam Singh Bisht on this historic achievement, the Governor said that his success is a matter of pride not only for Uttarakhand but for the entire country. He said that Mr. Bisht’s courage, determination and passion are highly commendable, and that he has enhanced the prestige of Uttarakhand on the international stage. The Governor added that this achievement serves as a great source of inspiration for the youth and proves that even in the most difficult circumstances, global success can be achieved through discipline, hard work and self-belief.
The Governor emphasised the need to support and sponsor such talented achievers under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and appealed to society to come forward in this direction. On this occasion, he also discussed the possibilities of organising ultra trail competitions in Uttarakhand. It is noteworthy that Mr. Kalam Singh Bisht served in the 4 Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army. At present, he has earned recognition in India and abroad as the country’s first ultra runner, mountaineer and social worker. In his native village, he is also doing commendable work by training more than 300 children in running, mountaineering, yoga and cycling, thereby helping them stay away from drugs and other social evils.
