    Publish Date : November 24, 2025

On the occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Hind Ki Chadar Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd.) participated in the valedictory session of a two-day national seminar organised at Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Haridwar.

Paying homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and bowing to the Guru tradition, the Governor said that the sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur teaches the message that offering everything—even life itself—for the protection of Bharat Mata is the truest form of dharma, karma, and national duty.

The Governor said that the Sikh Guru tradition elevated the ideals of dharma, social responsibility, and nationalism. It upheld humanity as the highest virtue. Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom teaches that even in times of grave crisis, when life and death stand face-to-face, one must never abandon national duty and social responsibility. His sacrifice was not only for the protection of faith but also for safeguarding freedom, human rights, dignity, and the soul of the nation.

The Governor said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Government of India have honoured the Guru tradition and the sacrifices of the Gurus. Declaring 26 December as Veer Baal Diwas is a mark of national gratitude, immortalising the unparalleled sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four Sahibzadas in the nation’s collective consciousness.

He added that in today’s world—where ideological conflicts are rising, divisive forces are active, and attempts are made at times to challenge national unity—the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur inspire us to remember that the nation is supreme. The essence of his life conveys that the individual comes after the family, the family after society, and society after the nation. Unless we internalise this order, the dream of a developed India will remain distant.

The Governor highlighted Guru Hargobind Sahib’s Miri-Piri doctrine as the foundation of nationalism—teaching the world that a person must be saintly within and courageous in action. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, through the creation of the Khalsa, united valour with spirituality and national duty with service to humanity.

On this occasion, the book Sees Diya Par Sirr Na Diya – Dharm Rakshak Guru Tegh Bahadur based on the life and teachings of the Guru was released.

The Governor administered a pledge that India’s soul—truth, service, equality, and national duty—will never be allowed to weaken and that we shall build an India that is strong, compassionate, modern, and deeply spiritual.

The programme was attended by Swami Chidanand Ji Maharaj of Parmarth Niketan; President of Gurdwara Sri Hemkunt Sahib Committee Shri Narendrajit Singh Bindra; Secretary, Sanskrit Education, Uttarakhand, Shri Deepak Kumar Gairola; Minister of State Shri Shyamveer Saini; Vice Chancellor of the Sanskrit University Prof. Dinesh Chandra Shastri; Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Prof. Daljit Singh, Dr. Sarvesh Ojha, Dr. Prakash Chandra and other dignitaries.
