The three-day “Governors Cup Golf Tournament-2026,” organized by the Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Nainital from May 22, concluded on Sunday. A total of 179 golfers from nine states across the country participated in the tournament. During the prize distribution ceremony held at Lok Bhavan, Nainital, the Governor and Chairman of Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd.), felicitated the winners and runners-up in various categories.
Samarth Jain emerged as the overall winner and champion of the 21st Governors Cup Golf Tournament. Ashish Jain was declared the runner-up. Nusrat Abbasi won the Best Net category, while Anshul Chhabra was the runner-up.
In the Super Veteran Gross category, Colonel S.C. Gupta secured the winner’s title, while S.K. Suri finished as runner-up. In the women’s category, Dr. Srishti Dhaun emerged victorious, with Mrs. Arohi Atri as runner-up. In the Veteran Gross category, Zafar Iqbal won the title and Colonel Manoj K. Sah was runner-up. Master Vijitendriya Singh Tomar was awarded the title of “Most Promising Golfer.”
In the junior category, under the 15–17 age group, Aaliya Sisodiya won the title, while Krishnam Vinayak was runner-up. In the 12–14 age group, Zoheb Abbasi emerged as winner and Medhansh Singh Bisht was runner-up. In the under-12 category, Arihant Joshi was declared winner and Ridit Naithani runner-up.
Expressing his happiness, the Governor said that the 21st Governors Golf Cup had set a new benchmark through its successful organization. He stated that the event symbolized the participants’ passion, sportsmanship, and collective celebration.
He noted that the three-day event conveyed a positive social message, where participants ranging from a seven-year-old child to senior players aged 81 played together like one large family. Appreciating the excellence, skill, and dedication displayed by children, women, and young girls, he said it was truly inspiring for the future. The participation of players from nine states strongly reflected India’s spirit of “unity in diversity.”
The Governor further said that the Lok Bhavan Golf Course, operational since 1926 and spread across 42 acres of serene natural forest area, is a remarkable example of harmony between nature and sports. He added that the presence of various bird species and wildlife enriches the biodiversity of the campus, making it seem as though nature itself had become part of the event.
He said the three-day tournament provided participants with an opportunity for introspection, meditation, connection with nature, and self-improvement. He urged the participants to warmly promote their experience and the unique features of the Lok Bhavan Golf Course so that more people could connect with this distinctive blend of sports, nature, and discipline.
The Governor congratulated all players, organizers, sponsors, spectators, the Lok Bhavan Golf Club, Nainital, and the local administration for the successful conduct of the tournament.
Among those present at the prize distribution ceremony were First Lady Mrs. Gurmit Kaur, Director General of Police Deepam Seth, Secretary to the Governor and Vice Chairman of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Ravinath Raman, Additional Secretary to the Governor and Vice Chairperson Reena Joshi, Officer on Special Duty to the Governor and Secretary of Lok Bhavan Golf Club Amit Srivastava, Officer on Special Duty and Club Member Sumit Kumar Shadija, Golf Captain Colonel Vivek Bhatt, Financial Controller to the Governor Dr. Tripti Srivastava, member Dr. Sachchidanand Chamoli, Ved Prakash Muhar, GM IOCL S.A. Nimkar, and several other dignitaries.
